There’s a New Hallow-Queen in Town
A Final Farewell to Icon, Elvira and Hello to Hosts Ivonna and Eddie Munster.
HOLLYWOOD, Calif./EWORLDWIRE/2011 — Horror movie fans are hearing the announcement – Cassandra Peterson will shed her Elvira make up for good on November 6 following the Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles. After 30 years of loyally portraying the same character, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, will go dark. While the news of Elvira’s final appearance strikes a cord in horror enthusiasts across the country, there’s no reason for TV fans to mourn. Popular horror host Ivonna Cadaver, Eddie Munster’s co-host, will take the stake as America’s newest horror siren.
Macabre Theatre has been signed for new episodes airing weekends on America One TV, a national service providing programming to more than 30.1 million households in the U.S. Ivonna has been called the “fresh face of the undead,” and LA Weekly called the horror/comedy show “the best damn thing on TV.”
Macabre Theatre began on KDOC-TV in Los Angeles and quickly moved into national syndication. Appearing with Ivonna was Butch Patrick, best known as Eddie Munster on “The Munsters” TV series. In step with the show’s success, Patrick will celebrate one year of sobriety in November of 2011. TMZ reported the star had checked himself into a rehab facility for treatment of a 40-year addiction to drugs and alcohol, and living clean and sober seems to be working for him.
“It’s ‘The Next Generation of Horror’,” said Natalie Popovich, who portrays the character Ivonna Cadaver. “Our fans have loved the B-horror classics like ‘Satan’s School for Girls’ and ‘Theatre of Blood’, but now it’s time to dig into the crypt and expose the future of indie horror films.”
The show’s new films include such blood-worthy titles as “The Creepy Doll,” produced by P.J. Woodside and Steve Hudgins of Big Biting Pig Productions and other indie flicks from talented filmmakers across the globe. Fans of Ivonna will feel no pain, only desire, when they see Ivonna host segments and talk horror-mania in her trademark fishnets and plunging neckline outfits.
Ivonna Cadaver is well known on the local Los Angeles scene. She starred in Knott’s “Scary Farms Halloween Haunt” for two years, created and participated for two years in CBS Radio’s, K-Earth’s Ex-scream Home Makeover, covers studio DVD releases and red carpet events in the genre, and filmed a “Macabre Theatre Special” outside Grauman’s Chinese Theater where her guests included, among others, Nathan Fillion, star of ABC-TV’s Castle.
“We plan to spotlight the independent directors and writers who are shooting the best low budget indie horror films today and continue to go behind the scenes of the big studio releases as well. These talented new artists will be tomorrow’s Roger Corman and Dario Argento,” Popovich said.
Gary Lycan, senior producer and 30-year veteran as the radio column writer for the OC Register, added, “The original shows were campy and full of improv and fun – but these new shows will be even better and will really give her fans something to sink their teeth into.” Macabre Theatre: The Next Generation of Horror, will begin airing on America One in mid-November.
